Connect AI assistants with MCP
MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that AI assistants use to connect to outside sources of information. When you turn on MCP for a Nexus project, assistants that support MCP get one tool from it, called Ask. The assistant uses Ask to send a question and get back an answer based on the project's published content.
Each connection gets its own address, which you give to the assistant. Because every assistant has its own connection, you can delete one without affecting the others. A connection is either:
Public: anyone with the address can use it, without signing in. The list shows these as Anyone with the URL.
Private: people sign in through your identity provider first. The list shows these as Signed-in users only.
To turn MCP on or off:
Select Nexus in the top menu. You are presented with the list of current Nexus projects.

Access the project you want to configure by selecting it in the list.
Select the AI Answers tab.
In the MCP section, select the MCP toggle switch.
If the project has connections, a confirmation dialog opens. Select Turn on or Turn off.
While MCP is off, your connections stay in the list but none of them work.
To add a public connection:
Select Nexus in the top menu. You are presented with the list of current Nexus projects.

Access the project you want to configure by selecting it in the list.
Select the AI Answers tab.
In the MCP section, select Add connection.
In the Name field, enter a name for the connection. For example, "Help center".
Under Who can use it, choose Public.
Select Add connection.
Select Copy to copy the connection address, then add it to your assistant.
Select Done.
Important
The connection address is only shown once. If you lose it, delete the connection and add a new one.
To add a private connection, you need access to your identity provider's settings, and an application created for Paligo in it. This is the same kind of setup as single sign-on for a portal. See Authentication.
To add a private connection:
Select Nexus in the top menu. You are presented with the list of current Nexus projects.

Access the project you want to configure by selecting it in the list.
Select the AI Answers tab.
In the MCP section, select Add connection.
In the Name field, enter a name for the connection.
Under Who can use it, choose Private.
Select Next.
Copy the Redirect URL into your identity provider's list of allowed redirect URIs. All connections in a project share this URL.
From your identity provider, copy these values into the fields:
Issuer URL (it must start with https://)
Client ID
Client secret
Select Add connection.
Select Copy to copy the connection address, then add it to your assistant.
Select Done.
Anyone who uses this address signs in through your identity provider first.
After you copy the connection address, add it to your AI assistant as a remote MCP server. Each assistant does this in its own way, so follow the instructions in your assistant's documentation. For example, see the documentation for Claude or Microsoft Copilot.
Once the connection is added, the assistant can use the Ask tool to answer questions from your project's published content.
Assistants that use the connection lose access to your content straight away. You can't undo this.
To delete a connection:
Select Nexus in the top menu. You are presented with the list of current Nexus projects.

Access the project you want to configure by selecting it in the list.
Select the AI Answers tab.
In the MCP section, select Delete next to the connection.
In the confirmation dialog, select Delete.
