[en] Nexus themes
[en] A Nexus theme decides how a Nexus portal looks and how its pages are laid out: the header, navigation, footer, colors, fonts and any scripts that run on the page. Your content stays the same. Paligo turns your topics into page content, and the theme decides what is shown around that content and how it is styled.
[en] Themes are set per layout. You create a layout with the THEME output format, choose its theme in the Layout Editor, and publish to Nexus with that layout. Every publication published with the layout uses its theme. Paligo also has a built-in theme layout, Theme - Paligo Default, which publishes with Paligo Base and its default settings.
[en] You can use a theme in two ways:
[en] Paligo Base: the built-in theme. It has a header with search, a navigation sidebar, an on-page table of contents, a portal page and a dark mode, and you can adjust it with theme options such as the accent color and the portal banner. You don't need to upload anything.
[en] A custom theme: a theme that you or a web developer builds, uploaded to the layout as a ZIP file. A custom theme can change anything about the page structure and styling. The quickest way to start one is to download Paligo Base and change it.

[en] Theme options let a theme be adjusted without editing it. The theme decides which options exist, and you set their values in the Layout Editor, so the same theme can be used with different colors or settings on different layouts.
[en] The layout's other settings, such as Branding, Search and Custom code, still apply when you change the theme. The site title, logo and search engine come from the layout, and the theme decides where and how they are shown.
[en] Theme developers can build and preview a theme on their own computer with [en] Paligo Theme Studio, an extension for Visual Studio Code that shows the theme on your real content as you edit it.
